Areas Of Practice in Psychotherapy
Psychiatry
As a medical doctor (M.D.) in psychiatry, I specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. Using a variety of research methods, treatment options, and working closely with patients I aim to help others get the most out of life. Many of my treatment options include a form of psychotherapy, including supportive psychotherapy, but there are some cases in which prescription medication is also used. Being an M.D., I have the credentials and experience to prescribe medication to patients when determined necessary.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
A widely used psychotherapy practice that I specialize in is psychodynamic psychotherapy, otherwise known as insight oriented psychotherapy. In this process, patients speak freely about what is on their mind. This includes the current issues, thoughts, fears, and desires one is having. The focus of this practice is to help others discover, understand, and overcome negative thoughts and feelings they frequently encounter. Upon completion, my goal is to help others become their own best therapist, allowing them to analyze and resolve future challenges life will bring.
Psychoanalysis
Another from of talk-therapy that involves a much deeper and individualized approach is called psychoanalysis. Patients and I have an open conversation that aims to discover ideas and memories buried deep in the mind. In this practice I use specific techniques to help individuals better understand their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Patients often see me four or five times a week for lengthy periods of time, depending on their treatment goals. This more comprehensive form of treatment creates a deeper relationship, allowing patients to more fully discover their inner mysteries. I have found that this is the most successful way to achieve permanent change.
